Durban delivers `historic` last-gasp climate deal
The latest round of climate change negotiations in Durban were saved from the brink of collapse last night, as countries agreed a wide-ranging new deal hailed by the UN as a "remarkable new phase" for the international climate regime. In dramatic scenes during the early hours of this morning, three days of intense overnight negotiations culminated in a text that promises to extend the Kyoto Protocol and deliver a new "legal" treaty covering all nations that will be agreed by 2015 and enacted by 2020.
