UK energy system gets smart
Smart meters will be rolled out through energy suppliers to every home by the end of 2020 under final plans published by Energy and Climate Change Minister Lord Hunt. A paper setting out the case for developing smart grids in the UK is also being published.
Lord Hunt said:
“A global climate deal in Copenhagen needs all countries to make the most ambitious commitments possible, but it will also require all of us to change how we lead our lives and how we generate our energy.

Beware of lead and phthalates in Children’s holiday toys
Over the last several years there have been a number of media reports regarding tainted Chinese toys that have lead to massive product recalls. As the holiday shopping season is in full swing parents should be aware of the potential for continuing threats from heavy metals and chemicals that can leach from children’s toys. In an issue of the Pediatrics journal earlier this year a study reported that a number of common baby products may be exposing children to a group of chemicals known as phthalates.
