USEPA issues chromium-6 monitoring guidance
The US Environmental Protection Agency issued guidance on enhanced monitoring for hexavalent chromium (chromium-6) in drinking water. The recommendations are in response to emerging scientific evidence that chromium-6 could pose health concerns if consumed over long periods of time.

Hudson river becomes laboratory
Research engineers and a New York state utility have been using a Hudson River contamination site as a laboratory, testing a new way to remove coal tar pollutants from riverbeds using mattress-sized absorbent panels. The panels are filled with organo-clay, a mineral which draws oil like a magnet.
