WEF, IWA Celebrate World Water Day by Announcing Winners of Second Annual World Water Monitoring Day Awards
In celebration of World Water Day 2011, the Water Environment Federation (WEF) and the International Water Association (IWA) proudly announce the winners of the second annual World Water Monitoring Day (WWMD) Awards. Today also marks the start of the program`s 2011 monitoring period that will run through December 31, 2011. Tsunami footage assists wave prediction
When the powerful earthquake of 11 March triggered a tsunami that struck swathes of Japan`s north-east coast, images of the devastating wave were captured. As well as conveying the scale of the tragedy, footage of the debris-filled water sweeping across fields can be used to better understand the characteristics of tsunamis and help save lives in the future.
