GE loses Superfund clean-up fight with EPA
GE lost an ongoing battle with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to limit Superfund cleanup liabilities this week, even as it commissioned another vendor to help it clean up 30 years of pollution in the Hudson River.  The company had challenged the EPA in court, arguing that companies ordered to clean up Superfund sites had no real opportunity to contest such orders, and could incur large penalties for non-compliance without adequate recourse to appeal. Environmental industry revenues reported
Revenues derived by Canadian businesses from sales of environmentally-related goods and services amounted to $4.1 billion in 2008. Of this total, just under $2.3 billion in revenues were derived from sales of environmental goods manufactured in Canada, while sales of environmental services accounted for $1.8 billion.

Slightly more than 40% of the revenues from environmental goods, about $966 million, was generated through sales of machinery, equipment and products for renewable energy production.
