California lawmakers ask for offshore fracking probe
A group of state lawmakers has asked the federal government to investigate hydraulic fracturing off the California coast where new oil leases have been banned since a disastrous oil spill in 1969.
Fracking has occurred in the Santa Barbara Channel at least 12 times since the late 1990s, and regulators earlier this year approved a new project, according to a recent report by The Associated Press, which obtained well permits and internal emails through the Freedom of Information Act.

DOE Seeks Deactivation Contractor for Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today issued a Request for Task Proposal (RTP) for deactivation activities at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant (GDP) in Paducah, Kentucky. These services are required so that DOE can address the return of the Paducah GDP facilities that are currently being leased by the United States Enrichment Corporation (USEC), a private company. USEC is expected to return the facilities to DOE in the near future. The procurement will result in a three-year Task Order containing both cost reimbursable and firm fixed-price elements.
