`To Your Health` - Distillery sludge used to treat radioactive sites
It`s not the usual association that comes to mind - drinking your favourite brew and nuclear wastes - but a new study shows how distillery sludge can help solve one of our most pressing environmental problems. According to a new study, contaminated sites can be treated with sludge from the treatment of distillery wastewater in bioreactors. The study demonstrates an efficient method for decontamination of groundwater based on bacteria in sludge that naturally convert uranium into an insoluble form that can be more easily removed. Bernardin Lochmueller Awarded Patent for CAFO Wastewater Treatment Wetlands
Bernardin Lochmueller & Associates (BLA), a leader in sustainable infrastructure design, recently received a method patent for its Eco-Treatment™ constructed wetland system to treat wastewater from animal confinement operations (Patent No. US 8,021,551 B2). Manure management processes by Confined Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) have come under increasing scrutiny.
