Seattle Public Utilities and King County joint project uses MIKE URBAN for system-wide trunk network model
Seattle Public Utility’s (SPU’s) wastewater collection system is one of the largest in the State of Washington. It includes both sanitary sewers and combined sewers servicing more than 1.3 million people, including residents of most of Seattle and parts of Northern King County. Sanitary sewage and wastewater combined with stormwater collected from within the SPU service area are directed to large-scale conveyance and treatment facilities operated by King County’s Wastewater Treatment Division. Aerial imagery system helps save water
Agricultural Research Service (ARS) scientists are developing a system that saves water by using aerial imagery and ground-based sensors to determine the irrigation needs of small sections of cultivated fields.
Conventional irrigation practices, even when based on modern management and water application techniques, can be wasteful because they assume crop water needs are the same throughout an entire field, according to Douglas Hunsaker, an agricultural engineer at the ARS Arid-Land Agricultural Research Center in Maricopa, Ariz.
