- Flotation-Filtration Process Technology

1

akvoFloat is a separation technology based on a proprietary flotation-filtration process. This process leverages the akvola MicroBubble Generator and our proprietary automation, resulting in the most energy-efficient design on the market for oil, algae and suspended solids removal in hard-to-treat waters.

AKVOLA MICROBUBBLE GENERATOR:

The intelligent akvola MicroBubble Generator induces fine gas bubbles (50-70 micron) using very little energy and very little space – without the need for a saturator or a liquid recycle stream like in DAF (Dissolved Air Flotation) and with a better separation efficiency than conventional IGF (Induced Gas Flotation). The microbubbles are created using low-pressure air, nitrogen, CO2, natural gas or ozone. They have a high surface to volume and ratio and agglomerate with particles and droplets, carrying suspended matter, microalgae, oil and organic flocs to the surface. These agglomerates form a float layer on the surface that is skimmed off the tank.

PROCESS AUTOMATION:

The unique process automation within akvoFloat™ enables our systems to achieve a high removal efficiency with high and variable influent oil, algae and suspended solids loads. Four years of R&D gathering operational know-how have allowed us to optimize the key parameters for a wide range of hard-to-treat waters over a broad range of temperatures, pH and concentrations. We are the only technology that dynamically reacts to changing influent conditions by adjusting the amount and size of microbubbles, cleaning strategy, flux, etc.

  • High Recovery (>95%)
  • Constant Effluent Quality
  • Process parameters adapt fast to varying influent loads
  • Bubble Size: 50 – 100 micron
  • Ambient air on a low pressure level is used for bubble generation (50 Nl/m³ or 0.37 gal/ft³)
  • Low energy consumption (0,1 kWh/m³)

  • Oil&Grease
    • Up to 99% removal
    • Up to 30.000 ppm
  • Suspended Solids
    • 99% removal
    • Up to 5.000 ppm
  • Algae
    • 99,99% removal
    • Up to 2.000.000 cells/ml
  • Bacteria (log4)
  • Heavy Metals
  • Turbidity and Silt

Compared to any combination of flotation (DAF/DGF, IGF, CFU) and filtration (Walnut Shell Filters, Cartridge Filters, Cross-flow Membrane Filtration), akvoFloat has following advantages:

  • Handles higher loads of oil, suspended solids and algae
  • Highest Recovery (>95%) – Least Waste
  • Lowest Opex
  • Fastest adaptation to varying influent quality
  • Lowest Footprint
