Aquapoint - Model AquaCELL - Wastewater Treatment Systems
AquaCELL is a moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) process in which millions of submerged polyethylene (HDPE) biofilm carriers operate in motion within an aerated or mechanically mixed basin. Each carrier element incorporates multiple cells of protected surface area to sustain a dense community of attached growth fixed-film microorganisms (heterotrophic and autotrophic bacteria). As the neutrally buoyant carriers move throughout the water column, oxygen and organic/inorganic material are available to the biofilm which absorbs, oxidizes and reduces these pollutants thus providing treatment. The dense population of bacteria provides high-rate productivity, enhanced nitrification/denitrification, process stability, small footprint and ease of operation.

Self-Regulating-Purging Biological Reactor
Submerged fixed film processes are self regulating eliminating the need to actively manage mixed liquor suspended solids (MLSS), waste activated sludge (WAS), return activated sludge (RAS) and food to mass (F/M) ratios. As a result, maintenance requirements are minimal.
Nitrogen Conversion and Reduction

Ease of Operation and Maintenance
AquaCELLTM MBBR is a one-pass process eliminating the need to manage the MLSS, Food to Microorganism ratios and return activated sludge (RAS) associated with conventional suspended growth systems.
The MBBR process is not only resilient in toxic shock loading and extreme temperature conditions but it is also self-purging and naturally responsive to fluctuations in organic and nutrient loading. Potential “wash out” events from hydraulic surges are eliminated as the biofilm resides on the media retained in each reactor basin.
