Aquapoint - Model AquaCELL & AquaFAS - Wastewater Treatment Systems
Aquapoint’s AquaCELL (MBBR) and AquaFAS (IFAS) technologies are fixed film biological wastewater treatment processes in which thousands of submerged polyethylene (HDPE) biofilm carriers operate in motion within an aerated or mixed basin. Each carrier element incorporates multiple cells of protected surface area to sustain a dense community of attached growth microorganisms. As the neutrally buoyant carriers move throughout the water column, oxygen and organic/inorganic material is available to the biofilm which absorbs, oxidizes and reduces these pollutants thus providing treatment. The dense population of bacteria provides high-rate productivity, enhanced nitrification/denitrification, process stability, reduced footprint and ease of operation.

Benefits
Resiliency, Flexibility and Simplicity
The Lotus-ActiveCell process is resilient to toxic shock, responsive to organic load fluctutations and is easy to operate.
Established and Proven Technology
Hydroxyl’s ActiveCell450 Bioflim Carrier technology has been used successfully in the marine, commercial and municipal marketplace for over ten years.
Self-Regulating-Purging Biological Reactor
Submerged fixed film processes are self regulating eliminating the need to actively manage mixed liquor suspended solids (MLSS), waste activated sludge (WAS), return activated sludge (RAS) and food to mass (F/M) ratios. As a result, maintenance requirements are minimal.
Nitrogen Conversion and Reduction
Lotus-ActiveCell can be designed to effectively reduce ammonia-N, nitrate-N and total nitrogen concentrations.
AquaCELL (MBBR)
Moving Bed Bioreactor (MBBR) Configuration
This one pass process does not require management of MLSS, F/M ratios or return activated sludge (RAS)
Minimal Maintenance
Self purging and naturally responsive to fluctuations in organic loading
Process Stability
Resilient in toxic shock loading and extreme temperature conditions
Versatile Fixed-Film Technology
MBBRs can be the core treatment process or used for aerobic preconditioning, polishing, tertiary anoxic denitrification and more...
Ideal Applications Include
Industrial and high strength waste streams - roughing reactors - tertiary denitrification reactors - sites requiring minimal management and oversight - lagoon, oxidation ditch and RBC upgrades - cold climate nitrification/denitrification - slow build out developments (will perform at a very small fraction of design flow).
AquaFAS (IFAS)
Integrated Fixed-Film Activated Sludge (IFAS)
Incorporates biofilm carriers in a conventional activated sludge process where MLSS, F/M and RAS must be managed
Compact Designs
Roughly 1/4 the footprint of conventional systems
Enhanced Nutrient Removal (ENR)
Ideal for new or existing activated sludge facilities requiring substantial nitrification and/or denitrification
Cost Effective Retrofits
Upgrade the capacity and/or performance of existing facilities for pennies per gallon with out adding O&M requirements
Ideal Applications Include
Sites requiring high levels of nitrification/denitrification - activated sludge plant retrofits and upgrades - sites with limited space or aesthetic concerns - projects with budget constrains.
