AquaSentinel - Water Security Sensor
The AquaSentinel is a real-time WaterSecurity Sensor that detects toxins, algal blooms and pollutants in surface waters. The AquaSentinel uses green algae as a bio-sensor without the need of chemicals or consumables. It autonomously measures the fluorescence curve of algae existing in all surface waters and matches the result to detect a broad spectrum of toxins.

The AquaSentinel WaterSecurity Sensor detects algal bloom, toxins and pollutants in real-time and online. It monitors and measures the health of algae that occur naturally in all surface waters.
Monitoring the health of Algae
The AQS monitors the photosynthetic processes of the algae using light at specific wavelengths in order to see how those processes deviate from normal healthy algae.
Every minute or less, a fresh sample of algae is automatically loaded into the device and stress-tested with intense light which is then digested by the algae while the AquaSentinel observes this process.
Specific toxins present in the water affect photosynthesis in specific ways and at specific points along the chemical pathway, and this results in specific characteristic curves which serve as fingerprints for those toxins. Each curve is compared against an online database of normal and toxic fingerprints and matched to the closest one.
A non-match to the expected normal curve triggers an alarm that an unknown substance is present in the water and affecting the algae. A close match to a stored toxin fingerprint triggers an alarm identifying the substance that is present in the water. In both cases, the AquaSentinel automatically discharges the tested water sample into a clean sample container so that it can be further tested in a laboratory.
Installation and Use
The physical location of the AQS is always near or in the water. It can be mounted onto a wall or pole. And the AQS can be powered by traditional power, solar or batteries, while it can communicate through WiFi, Cell phone or satellite.
After powering the AQS, you can login online into your private AquaSentinel dashboard and manage users, alarms, notifications and other settings.
Data, user and api information from the AQS can be integrated onto 3rd party solutions such as security, process, mass notification or water management platforms.
The AquaSentinel is engineered with all stake holders in water security in mind. It is easy to install and maintain and offers a short learning curve.The AquaSentinel is a water toxicity monitor which utilizes green algae as a biosensor without the need of chemicals or consumables. It autonomously measures the inductive fluorescence curve of algae existing in surface water to create a thumbprint used to detect a broad spectrum of toxins. The sensor has an integrated pump and a unique system of valves to ensure the continuous operation and analysis of water. The system can be set up in such a way that when a toxin is detected a water sample is set aside for further testing.
Water Security Management Platform
The sensor connects with SecureWaters Water Security Platform transmitting all the data gathered by testing the water samples. This data is sent over the internet through a secure connection provided over a wired Ethernet connection (LAN), a Wireless Ethernet Connection (WiFi), a Mobile Data Connection (GPRS, Edge, 3G, 4G) or a Satellite Connection (Iridium).
All data is gathered and analyzed in real-time. When toxins trigger an alarm, a watersample is stored in an external storage bag. At the same time a text message or an email is sent to notify the user of the incident. The current state of the sensor and historic measurements are monitored on a web-based management dashboard or with an iOS, Android or Windows Mobile Phone App.
Installation and Maintenence
The standard housing of the sensor has an IP67, NEMA 4x ingress rating. Other housings, such as explosion proof are available. The mounting of the sensor is easy. It can be mounted to a pole or to a wall and waterlines can be connected easily with a press-to-connect fitting. The system runs on a 12 Volt power supply which can be supplied by a normal 100-240 AC adapter. It can also run on or in combination with an alternative power (Solar/Wind/Fuel Cell).
