Atzwanger - Biological Conversion System
Converting waste organics through biological processes can have various purposes, such as stabilization, hygienization, heat production for mass drying, production of biogas or degradation of hazardous substances. Most plants use the aerobic process, i.e. composting, in order to stabilize municipal waste before it is disposed of in a landfill, or to produce quality compost by processing organic waste coming from source separation.
The treated mass must be permeable to air. At least in the case of organic waste coming from source separation and sludge deriving from waste water treatment, this condition requires that the waste be mixed with a given quantity of waste wood chips (usually from gardening) as a structural material.
