CarbonCycle - Process Captures CO2
New Sky’s patented CarbonCycle Process captures CO2 from the air or flue gas and converts it into useful chemicals called carbonates. Carbonates are safe, mineralized forms of CO2, and include important industrial chemicals such as soda ash, baking soda, and limestone. They are used in manufacturing, food production, water purification, and many other uses.
Product Overview
Conventionally mined or manufactured “fossil” carbonates represent new sources of CO2 when used industrially. In contrast, New Sky carbonates are carbon neutral or even carbon negative chemicals… they contain CO2 that was captured from the atmosphere, or from flue gas about to enter the atmosphere.
Competing CO2 mineralization technologies produce large amounts of by-product chlorine, a volatile, toxic gas that is tightly regulated due to its health effects, noxious odor and potential as a terror target. New Sky’s CarbonCycle Process generates no chlorine, producing other useful chemicals such as sulfuric, nitric or hydrochloric acid instead.
When combined with New Sky’s SulfurCycle Process, CarbonCycle mineralizes CO2 at energies far lower than any known industrial method of mineralizing CO2. The net result is production of carbon neutral or carbon negative chemicals that are identical to conventional “fossil” carbonates.
