To promote the acceptance and responsible use of plastic pressure pipe and systems in energy markets including gas distribution and oil and gas gathering, by providing research, education, and code/standard development with a focus on delivering safe and sustainable plastic system solutions.

Polyethylene Pipes represent the material of choice for most gas distribution applications in North America and throughout the world. For US applications their use is governed by 49 CFR 192 which prescribes the design of plastic piping. In Canada the operation is regulated through CSA Z662. Polyethylene pipe for gas distribution applications range from ½' diameter through 24' diameter. Typical pressure capabilities are up through 80psi for MDPE pipes and up through 125 for HDPE pipes.

Where pressure ratings are higher than polyethylene is regulated to operate, certain polyamide piping systems have been approved for use in regulated gas distribution applications.

  • LPG systems
  • Propane Gas Piping
  • Yard Gas Piping

Plastic Pipes are widely used throughout oil and gas gathering applications due to the combination of chemical resistance, flexibility and durability. Polyethylene pipes are in use in applications both above and below ground where the temperatures and pressures can be tolerated. Typical pressures are up to 300 psi with temperatures up to 140F.

Recently composite pipe structures have become widely accepted in Oil & Gas Gathering applications. The composite pipes can be composed of a wide range of thermoplastic pipe materials that may be reinforced with thermoset plastics, metals or other reinforcing materials. Composite pipes can be designed to operate at higher temperatures than polyethylene and at pressures up to over 1000 psi.
