Sierra designs and constructs custom ventilation systems to reduce the environmental variability that can effect repeatability of results and unnecessarily extend test programs. Designs are typically customized for each application and can include (or make provision for) heating and cooling units, or re-circulation and make up air.

The volumetric flow rate of ventilation ductwork is based on the power capability of the largest engines the customer wishes to test and any additional treatment systems or hardware within the test cell. Due to inverter driven fans being used, the flow rate can be controlled for lower capacity engines using the same physical ductwork system and also offer comfort settings to provide circulation at low rates for test cell operatives while working in the test cell.

Sierra can supply recirculation ductwork as well as traditional intake and extract ventilation systems. On a colder day this can reduce the amount of duty required from the heater elements, as ambient fresh air can be mixed with a proportion of re-circulated air (warmed by the engine) to allow a stable cell temperature to be maintained. The recirculation ductwork also enables test cell temperature soaking prior to testing, as air can be repeatedly heated or cooled (with the addition of cooling coils) during recirculation as required.

Sierra uses two inverter driven axial circulating fans with the standard ventilation system design, this allows flow rates to be varied while maintaining test cell pressure. Control of the ventilation system is by the CADET V14 ventilation component which is either installed on the CADET test cell or facilities system controller. This can be operate as a stand-alone unit or receive setpoints from a CADET or 3rd party test cell host via an Ethernet AK protocol.
