Hydronar - Activated Carbon Filtration System
Filtration systems help to maintain drinking water as a high-quality nutrient in the long term. In LUQEL's water dispenser, the combined unit of an activated carbon and particle filter increases the performance of the previous sediment filtration process and prepares for the third stage of reverse osmosis. The combined unit of the second filtration stage consistently removes foreign matter and organic impurities >1 nm from the water.
Due to its many channel-shaped cavities, the pores, the activated carbon has a large inner surface area. It is therefore an ideal filter. The principle of adsorption is used for the treatment of drinking water: pollutant molecules from contaminated liquids are absorbed and bound by the pores of the activated carbon of different sizes. In this way, the concentration of foreign substances is constantly reduced.WHY ACTIVATED CARBON?
Activated carbon is a very porous, fine-grained carbon, which is made of natural materials such as coconut shells or wood. Because of its porous surface, it is excellently suited for the for the adsorption of organic contaminants. Before activated carbon was discovered for drinking water treatment, it was used in industrial wastewater treatment to filter impurities such as colorants, flavorings or substances toxic to bacteria out of the water.
Today, activated carbon filtration is also gaining in relevance for waterworks, as the water is increasingly contaminated with artificial organic trace substances. This is because activated carbon can be used to remove organic substances such as natural odors and flavors, certain pesticides and insecticides. However, this all-round talent reaches its limits when it comes to hormones, antibiotics, bacteria, arsenic, uranium and heavy metals. Lead and chrome, for example, cannot be filtered out of air or water by activated carbon, nor can nitrate. Other filter methods are used for this purpose, in which the activated carbon is often used as a pre-filter.
Activated carbon filtration is a process that has become indispensable in drinking water treatment. Activated carbon is used for the filtration of colorants, odorous substances and substances toxic to bacteria from tap water.
Eliminating chlorine molecules, microplastics and acids that are found in humus or peat soils, pesticides and insecticides from the water.
Activated carbon filtration increases the overall performance of LUQEL's drinking water filter. It acts as a pioneer for the use of the high-performance HYDRONAR® reverse osmosis filtration with its fine-pored membrane.
- As conventional filtration in sewage treatment plants is increasingly reaching its limits and artificial substances are getting into our drinking water, activated carbon filtration is becoming more and more relevant for the treatment of tap water by waterworks.
- Activated carbon is essential for drinking water treatment. It can be used to reliably filter out organic impurities in the water and unwanted tastes and odors.
- Activated carbon has an extremely large absorption surface: the inner surface of four grams of carbon is roughly equivalent to the area of a soccer field.
