Matrix silencer is a patent design (patent No. ZL 2005 20021593.6) and has been applied to various engineering instance. Matrix silencers are rectangular columns arranged in array and filled on the inside with ultra-thin glass fiber pillow wrapped by glass fiber fabric. The spacing between silencers allows air flow to pass. Each end of the silencer is supported by structural hollow section.

The specifications of column cross sections are 320 mm x 320 mm /480 mm x 480 mm. The shape of air defector cap is designed on the basis of twisted pair curve and punched model. And the silencing part in the column is constructed through bending over punching plate and then biting both ends into a hollow square section. Steel shell functions as sound proofing and external protection. Various materials (carbon steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel, etc.) are available for silencer parts (column punching plate, front deflector cap, front section frame, and external shell) to meet particular specification requirements. The matrix silencer would extend its shell life up to 10 years when used in working conditions without direct sunlight and rain. The stainless steel shall be used as a material replacement in corrosive salt fog at sea or extremely damp conditions
Two matrix silencer models: CLJZ32 and CLJZ48 with the section of 320*320 and 480*480 respectively. The matrix silencer interacts with the low and middle frequency components of the noise spectrum with a reduction value of 45-65dB (A). The twisted pair air dynamic design is beneficial to maintain low pressure drop (with a flow ratio of 45%, which is adjustable when necessary).
The CLJZ32/48 Matrix Silencer, made of stainless steel, is applicable for temperature ranging from -40 to 550 Celsius and for application environment as sea, coast, damp area and acid rain region, etc. While as for those dry continental regions, galvanized material should be used as a replacement. Matrix silencer is also suitable for noise reduction of gas turbine, aero engine test bed, marine naval ship, and enclosure outlet or exhaust at high temperature, with an ultra-short silencing length of only 2,000mm~4,000mm.

There are different sound spectrum among different equipment, different power, or different manufacture brand.
The following data are the reference based on the experience. The accurate test data will be tested in the real life of operation, which is used to reduce the cost and select the most suitable silencer.
First, it is suitable to use in the temperature ranging from -40 ℃ ~ 70 ℃. When it is main high-frequency noise, and the amount of sound attenuation is below 40 dBA, the general choice are CLLG08 / CLLG12 series tube silencer, or CLJZ32 / CLJZ48 series matrix muffler. According to the noise spectrum, noise requirements, basic acoustic estimation, and A sound level, to determine the length of silencer 2000mm/4000mm.
According to the air flow rate, in the air intake or inlet system, the reverse air flow will reduce the noise 5-10 dBA. If it is used for medium and high frequency noise from the equipment, the noise reduction will be calculated as 60 dBA for matrix silencer; if it is used for medium and low frequency noise, the noise reduction will be calculated as 50 dBA. In the air outlet or exhaust system, noise will reduce 5-10 dBA with the same as air flow direction. When it is used for medium and high frequency noise, the noise reduction will be calculated as 50 dBA; if it is used for low frequency noise, the noise reduction will be calculated as 40 dBA. Above estimation will secure the calculation, and make sure the final engineering conduction to achieve the requirement. For the large noise control required projects, in order to save the project cost, calculation should follow the octave band accurately to reduce the engineering work.
Second, the model selection, it is based on the nominal flow and the maximum flow resistant (or pressures drop). From the model list, make selection according to the flow resistant, and then select silencer model based on the flow rate. If the flow resistant value is between the two range, select the silencer model based on the flow rate from two columns. Also, it can be estimate based on the linearly proportional to the flow rate. The flow rate should not exceed the value in the table.
Third, if the silencer is install outside, should weather or environment conditions, to add louver, and filtration system for the intake or inlet system.
