The Invictus is a purpose designed environmental noise measurement instrument designed for use in a wide range of applications from short term noise measurements to long term noise monitoring projects.

An Invictus can be used on its own as a portable environmental noise monitor or can be combined with other instruments and sensors to form part of a larger, more comprehensive noise measurement and management system. For medium and long term noise monitoring applications, the Invictus can be combined with a secure enclosure for wall or mast mounting.

Ease of use is key to the Invictus and the large, clear colour touch screen allows the instrument to be deployed quickly whilst allowing the user to see the exact status of the system.

For over 40 years, Cirrus has been supplying noise monitoring instruments that are in use across the world in a wide range of environments and applications. All of this knowledge and experience has been applied to the design of the new Invictus, resulting in an instrument that uses the very latest in digital technology whilst being simple to setup, deploy and operate.

Fully weather protected, the main instrument is contained in a secure, lockable case with rugged connectors to attach the microphone and other external systems.

The outdoor microphone features a dual layer 200mm windshield with a hydrophobic coating as well as an electrostatic actuator. This system allows for automatic remote calibration of the system and incorporates a unique multi-frequency verification system, designed to monitor and maintain the long term performance of the instrument.

The 7” colour screen uses a resistive touch membrane which allows it to be used with gloves. This makes deployment quicker and more convenient in cold weather. All of the vital statistics of the instrument can be seen easily and the touch screen allows the instrument to be started, stopped and calibrated on site.

Once an Invictus instrument is deployed, it will measure, store and log noise data over long periods with a wide range of metrics available for download and analysis.

All of the measurement functions in the Invictus are measured at the same time so there’s no risk of selecting the wrong parameter. With a 120dB measurement range in a single span, the Invictus can be used for applications where the background noise levels can be very low whilst at the same time being capable of accurately measuring and storing high levels from aircraft or construction noise.

A,C and Z frequency weightings for Sound Level and Peak, along with F,S and I time weightings for Sound Level, are all measured and stored simultaneously along with real-time 1:3 octave bands from 6.3Hz to 20kHz.

The Noise-Hub2 software, supplied as standard with the Invictus, allows the detailed time history data to be used to recalculate additional parameters or to provide data over different time periods.

No two noise measurement applications are the same and when it comes to monitoring and managing noise levels, there can often be complex requirements in terms of levels and times that must be met.

The new Calendar function in the Invictus allows the instrument to be programmed to meet the most complex requirements quickly and easily. The Calendar function allows different measurement durations, triggering templates and alerts to be set up for different times of the day and different days of the week.

For example, an Invictus can be configured to measure every hour between 7am and 7pm and every 15 minutes between 7pm and 7am Monday to Friday. At weekends the measurements can change to be 1 hour across the whole 24 hour period when the site is not working.

The triggering templates used to create SMS, Email or Twitter alerts and to control audio recordings can be different within any of these periods giving you complete control over the measurement data, noise limits and triggers used throughout the week.

Special conditions can also be applied to take account of, for example Bank Holidays, unusual events where the standard noise limits and requirements are not suitable.

In many applications, triggering alerts when a noise event has occurred can be an effective way to monitor and manage noise from a project. However, it can also be very effective to know when the noise from a project is approaching a preset limit.

For example, a construction project may have a specific daily noise limit and the Invictus can be configured to alert relevant parties when a pre-set percentage of that limit is reached (e.g. 80% of the permitted daily level).

This allows for pro-active noise management to occur for the rest of the working period so that the overall permitted level is not breached.

The % Noise function runs independently of the other noise measurements in the Invictus and provides a further tool to effectively monitor and manage noise levels.

The Invictus can be configured to provide alerts to relevant parties via SMS, email or Twitter as and when specific conditions are met. At the same time, the Invictus can record audio files which can be downloaded for listening and analysis.

The audio recordings can be set to be either compressed (8kHz, 8bit), standard (16kHz, 16bits) or studio (96kHz, 32bits) quality.

Up to 5 unique triggering templates can be active in the instrument with the templates can be built from any parameter in the instrument. These can be either level, rate of change or tone based and each time a trigger condition is met, the instrument will send alerts, record audio and store an additional set of noise parameters.

Where the capability is available, the instrument can provide a live audio stream to the Noise-Hub2 software allowing the real-time noise levels to be listened to.

These capabilities are dependent upon the exact functions and options fitted to the instrument.

Retrieving data from a remote noise monitor can often be a difficult and time consuming task, especially in locations where there is no or poor cellular coverage.

The Invictus provides 32GB of internal storage and measurement data can be downloaded directly over a USB connection. More typical, however, is the use of one of the remote connection options.

The Invictus supports a range of standard communication methods including a 3G/GPRS modem, ethernet (LAN) or Wi-Fi.

The instrument can also communicate over RS232 where other communication options are required.

Noise-Hub2 is the latest version of the Cirrus Environmental software package that has been updated to support the new functions and features of the Invictus noise monitors.

The Invictus noise monitor and Noise-Hub2 software package have been designed to work in partnership to provide a complete noise monitoring and reporting system.

This next-generation platform can be run on a single PC, on a server or accessed through a web interface, allowing measurement data to be downloaded and reviewed, and reports created quickly and simply.

The Invictus can be provided with a complete weather measurement system that simply connects to the main case. Weather measurement data is stored with the noise data and can be downloaded into the Noise-Hub2 software.
The standard weather station provides for the measurement of Wind speed, Wind Direction, Humidity. Temperature, Pressure and Rainfall.
