The customer, a leading automotive, the development department presented an extensive product requirement / specification with a variety of needs for the perfect tool-cooling in a newly builded location. The foreground faced on the desire, the cooling technique was be located outside the core building to respond to future growing footprint or relocations quickly and cost-effectively.
After a talk with customers, planners and equipment-suppliers efficiently coordinated planning phase the specification was clearly defined within just eight weeks.
The result is a container refrigeration system with more than 2,100 kW compressor-chillers-driving-powers for up to 80 high-performances –injection moulding machines.
Maximum energy efficiency
In addition to a consistently safe cooling of all connected machines, the aim of a high energy saving was one of our top priorities. The engineers here at Weinreich achieved this through a clever combination of proven technology with modern components.
That needs, i.e. free-cooling, which accepts the tool cooling with less energy down to an outside temperature of 15°C. The necessary water can be completely removed from the existing rainwater cistern. This was adequately dimensioned in planning from contractors to enable -even in dry periods- a waiver of expensive fresh water. Only this saves 60.000 EUR per year in a three-shift operation.
Generally, a heat recovery of about 700 kW in continuous-operation is possible.
The considerable amount of heat from the injection-molding machine is adapted to a heating-friendly flow temperature of about 30°C and transmitted to the central heating system of the building. This relieves the gas-central-heating of about 12.000m² building significantly.
Redundancy for maximum security
About the free-cooling Weinreich also used a powerful compressor-cooling-system, combined with the latest control technology and pump technology. The double-lined, frequency controlled and demand-controlled pumps already meet the energy requirements of the future (IE-3) and allow a low-maintenance and safe operation.
The compressor unit is dimensioned so that in the future more machines can be integrated into this central cooling system. Doubling the cooling capacity at any time by retrofitting further components in existing containers is possible – even during operation.
But even with the electronic control system has been thought of the future: in addition to a full geographical PLC, Weinreich used an electromechanical standard control, to make sure, that even in the situation of a computer failure or software problems of any kind, there is the possibility of a manual management.
Another advantage of this container-cooling-system is that in case of a power failure a powerful-emergency-generator ensures the cooling of all the tools and thus damage gets avoided.
Annual maintains can be performed without switching off the system, since all the circuits and system-related components have been duplicated.
Absolute investment-security
The motto “20 years of maturity without significant disruption” was also a main aim at this Weinreich project. The engineers proved farsightedness the choices of necessary things, for example choose of the cooling-water-tank: this multi-chamber-tanks welded stainless steel and puts the usual blown PE tanks in the shade. Cracking, leaks and aging are safely avoided.
These with filter marked plate-heat-exchangers feature a maintenance-friendly construction: they can get replaced or cleaned quickly and with very little effort.
Trend for central-cooling
“In general you can find a trend going over to central-cooling”, says Dipl.-Ing. Guido Schulte, Managing Director of Weinreich. “The advantages are obvious: less space required, better energy-efficiency, a central controller and a significant lower maintenance provide long-term cost servings in the production process.”
In order to respond better to customer needs, Weinreich puts this on the container construction.
Just 48 hours left until the production starts
By space-saving storage in a heat- and sound-isolated double-container, commissioning within only two days was made possible. The high degree of pre-assembly reduced the workload under adverse weather conditions on site to a minimum. After setting of the two, each 5x6 m large containers on prepared foundations just the connection between both modules and the connection to the on-site equipment-cooling-system were missing.
Competence for the highest demands
This project also shows the application benefits of the entire Weinreich temper device section:
High-quality craftsmanship, no compromise in the material selection, ease of use, fast access to all the contained components (100% made in Germany), high durability, and – if necessary – a simple, quick maintenance or repair. Substitution of components can be carried out by the technicians of the user, or alternatively by the 24-hour Weinreich customer service.
Conclusion:
Weinreich fulfilled all the requirements of the customer and at a cost provide a comparable decentralized cooling technology in the shade. The extremely high energy savings ensures that this investment will have paid for itself in less than 5 years – pioneering solution that secures long-term competitive advantages to the customer.
