Model CS / SS - Centrifugal Separators
From Traditional Solids Management
Griswold Centrifugal Separators can be installed in either full flow or side stream configurations. Griswold Centrifugal Separator Systems are designed as self-contained units for cooling tower and cooling system cleaning. Our Dual Stage High Efficiency Separators come in two configurations: our CSS model (with Auto Purge System – used for evaporative loops) and CSR model (Closed Solids Recovery System – used in non-evaporative loops.) Both models are compact, durable, economical, and effective filtration packages. Both systems come with their own pump (end-suction pump for flooded suction and self-priming pump for negative suction), pipe manifolds, pressure gauge, and basket strainer (standard on High Head systems). The CSS model has a pump control panel and a standard timer purge controller. The CSR model has a pump control with a closed solids recovery tank with pressure annunciator, sight flow indicator, and manual valves.

How it Works
The solids-laden stream of liquid enters the separator tangentially through the inlet which immediately creates a strong centrifugal force on the solids content. Fluid is forced around the circumference of the body to accelerate heavier particles.Open the manual relief valve (1) after system installation to bleed off trapped air. Periodic bleeding of air should be done as part of a routine maintenance program.
The spin plate (2) deflects solids that may enter the vortex region and shortens the travel of vortex.
Solids pass the gap between the bottom spin plate and the inner wall of the separator (3), and are deposited in the collection chamber.
Bottom spin arrestors (4) help prevent solids from reentering the vortex. The collected solids settle to the bottom of the separator in an elliptical head (5).
