ES series dewatering presses are entry level models. Offered for affordable price by focusing on the basic functions of the dewatering press with Volute technology.

In 1991, AMCON brought Volute into the world where nobody had ever seen such a unique filter element. Before Volute was developed, AMCON’s previous experience as an operator of sludge dewatering equipments and wastewater treatment plants urged us to develop a user-friendly machine. After 10 years, we completed the development of Volute technology, the filter elements with multiple layered Rings. The mindset of the founder of AMCON has been carried over by AMCON engineers, and continuous efforts for development and improvement of the technology are being made to make the facilities more user-friendly and convenient.

Volute is structured with a filter element that consists of two types of Rings: a Fixed Ring and a Moving Ring; and a screw that thrusts the filter element and transfers and pressurizes the sludge. The gaps between the Rings and the screw pitch are designed to gradually get narrower towards the direction of sludge cake outlet and the inner pressure of the filter element increases due to the volume compression effect, which thickens and dewaters the sludge.

According to customer requirements, two types of core units (with Volute technology/with Advanced Volute technology) and two types of main body configurations (with/without sludge conditioning tank) are available.

Volute

Volute is the standard technology that brought innovation to the industry of dewatering equipment in 1991. The self-cleaning mechanism that dewaters and prevents clogging has enabled continuous dewatering for a long period of time.

Advanced Volute

Advanced Volute inherits the merits of the standard Volute technology and has evolved further. Advanced Volute technology widens the range of applications in terms of sludge types, reduces the performance degradation caused by aging, and delivers stable performance over a longer period of time. In addition, the amount of components that needed to be regularly replaced is reduced sharply, reducing the total lifetime cost.

Model with sludge conditioning tank

A sludge conditioning tank temporarily stores sludge before it is dewatered. The model with a sludge conditioning tank realizes a high solid capture rate higher than 95%, and the efficiency of sludge treatment is tremendously enhanced as the inlet sludge is always conditioned beforehand. In addition, when required, the conditioning tank can be used as a reactor tank for inorganic flocculant.

For the model without a sludge conditioning tank, an affordable price was realized by eliminating the tank. In addition, it is designed to ecure the solid capture rate as high as 90% or higher. The performance is as sufficient as it needs to be.

Volute is ideal for oily sludge with clog-free and self-cleaning mechanism

The clogging of filter mesh decreases the efficiency of conventional dewatering equipments.
AMCON's dewatering press is equipped with unique Volute technology, which enables dewatering while automatically self-cleaning the filter mesh. This enables stable and constant dewatering to take place without depending on high pressure flushing water to prevent clogging.
This self-cleaning mechanism enables Volute to be ideal to dewater oily sludge, which easily causes clogging and is difficult to treat with other types of dewatering equipments.

Thickening and dewatering all in one filter drum

It was the common theory of dewatering process to first thicken the sludge and then dewater before the invention of Volute.
Volute adopted the unified structure that serves two functions, thickening and dewatering in the single machinery. The secret lies in the self-cleaning mechanism. The drum filter, because of the clog-free, realizes higher speed of filtering phenomena per filtering area as compared to other methods, and the sludge is instantly thickened by gravity. For this reason, low concentration sludge of about Total Solids 0.2%, as well as thickened sludge, can be directly fed without pre-thickening.
Thus, the direct feed of low concentration sludge is possible, so that the direct dewatering becomes possible from OD reactor tanks (aeration tanks), many of which are introduced in small scale municipal wastewater treatment plants throughout Japan.

Generally speaking, in the precedent stage of sludge dewatering, there is a sludge thickening tank for pre-thickening of sludge and a sludge storage tank for storing the thickened sludge. The sludge in the sludge thickening tank or sludge storage tank gives off offensive odors as time passes while the thickening and dewatering treatment is processed. Direct dewatering of low concentration sludge from the OD reactor tank (aeration tank) with Volute removes odor by dewatering fresh aerobic sludge, reduces investment costs for thickening and storage equipment and operation costs. Furthermore, phosphorus in waste activated sludge can be efficiently captured in the dewatered sludge cake, which reduces the load of returning phosphorus to the wastewater treatment. In addition, the condition of the sludge in the OD reactor tank (aeration tank) is always stable, which further contributes to the stable dewatering process.
This 'Direct dewatering from OD reactor' was demonstrated for the first time ever in the world as a result of the joint research of AMCON and the Japan Sewage Works Agency in 1998, and now it is the most standard sludge treatment process flow in Japan with hundreds of applications.

The model of sludge dewatering press based on the customer needs can be selected from a wide range of line-up, from a super-small 0.5 kg-DS/h throughput to a large 780 kg-DS/h throughput. Likewise, sludge thickeners can be selected from 1 m3 to 90 m3/h capacity.

Small footprint

Volute has a smaller footprint than other technologies. Compared to a standard screw press with throughput of 30 kg-DS/h, Volute Dewatering Press can reduce the footprint by about 70%. Volute can be installed in places where placement would not be possible with other technologies for reasons such as low building ceilings or limited area. Therefore, the construction cost of a large building for installation is not required. This makes Volute suitable to customers who are considering the replacement of existing dewatering equipment.

Easy operation/Easy maintenance

Full automatic 24-hour operation without an operator on-site is possible with automatic operation control using various sensors. With this function, manual operation, such as starting or stopping, is not required. Moreover, daily maintenance is minimized, requires no skilled labor neither special knowledge, so that everybody can use it easily.

Environment friendly (power saving/low noise/water saving design)Power saving

The screw which is the main component of Volute rotates very slowly at a rate of 2 to 4 rpm, so that it consumes very low power and thus economical. When comparing Volute with centrifuge for 30 kg-DS/h throughput, the power consumption of Volute is 1/20th of centrifuge which requires rotation at high speed.

Low noise/low vibration

Because Volute has no rotating body with high speed, there is no concern about noise and vibration.
The low noise releases stress and noise protection are not required when the machine is in operation.
Moreover, the vibration is also minimized so that no sophisticated groundwork is required.
For these reasons, a comfortable work environment can be secured.

Water-saving

Volute prevents filter mesh from clogging with its unique self-cleaning mechanism, removing the need for huge amounts of water for clogging prevention. When compared with dewatering equipments of the same throughput, the amount of cleaning water required for Volute is about 1/115th of belt press and about 1/12th of conventional screw press.
