Natural Draft Cooling Towers, also known as Hyperbolic Cooling Towers, are typically the preferred solution when processing large water flows such as in Power Plant applications. The working principle is that hot air moves upwards while cool air is drawn into the tower through an air inlet at the bottom.
The main advantages of Natural Draft Cooling Towers are that no fans are utilised saving power and lower noise emission coupled with long operating life cycle and limited maintenance. The tower height however can reach up to 180m and the shell material is typically made of reinforced concrete.
For space limited applications, the Natural Draft can be supplied with fans in a circle around the cooling tower to increase the amount of the airflow and reduce the overall size.
