Long a favorite with NWS, WMO, system integrators and meteorological departments around the world, OSI’s OWI-432 optical present weather & visibility sensor is now a key sensor in our Modular Automated Weather Observation Systems. OWI-432 sensors now have expanded processing power to handle added sensor inputs, and  enhanced communications options for network, cell phone, and VHF interface. MAWOS is available in FAA II P / III P configurations.

Typical MAWOS configurations include:

  • AWOS A - Reports altimeter setting only.
  • AWOS IIP - Reports altimeter setting, density altitude, wind speed, wind direction, gusts, variable wind, temperature, dew point, visibility, and present weather.
  • AWOS IIIP - Reports altimeter setting, density altitude, wind speed, wind direction, gusts, variable wind, temperature, dew point, visibility, present weather, cloud height, and cloud coverage.

Installation is easy. For example, all that is required for installation of an AWOS IIP at the sensor site is a vertical pipe for mounting the OWI-432, MAWOS® Control Enclosure, and Temperature/RH Probe, a 30 foot tower for the wind sensor, 120 vac (15 amps), telephone line (optional), and Ethernet connection (optional).

The OWI-432 WIVIS is included in all configurations (except AWOS A). This results in savings to the customer and a very cost effective means to obtain an AWOS system which reports visibility and present weather at a very affordable cost.

The AWS-432 offers a modular design. The following options are available with any configuration:

  • Remote Display Units (RDU)

The AWS-432 graphical display is easily added to most modern PCs. All that is needed is an Ethernet connection between the MAWOS sensor site and PC. The PC then serves as the Remote Display Unit (RDU).

The AWS-432 MAWOS is a highly cost effective, advanced Modular Automated Weather Observing System that may be configured specifically for your airport.

MAWOS is designed for continuous weather reporting in aviation applications. The system is flexible, robust, easily installed, and extremely reliable. MAWOS is designed to FAA Advisory Circular 150-5220.16D and Canadian CAR 804.01(c) AWOS specifications. Options from simple AWOS A to AWOS IIIP are offered. Automated voice broadcast is accessible on land line, cell phone (option), and VHF aviation band. Broadcast voice capability is available in both French and English.
