Sometimes it is necessary to cool hot gas stream in industrial processes or in scrubbers. One of the processes used are cooling towers with water sprinklers.
With these equipment the hot gases are cooled to levels very close to saturation. For this, the solution provided (usually water) absorbs the calorific value of the gas stream and is evaporated as moisture.
Quenches or cooling equipment are necessary to protect facilities that do not support high temperatures that sometimes exist in the processes. In scrubbers, for example, it is necessary to cool the gas stream because if not, the droplets evaporate before reacting/decontaminating the gas.
