SIKA-R...AX filter elements are manufactured by co-axial pressing. A wide range of different geometries can be obtained by means of this pressing process. The pore size is made to measure from 0.5 µm to 200 µm. Sintering turns SIKA-R...AX elements into dimensionally stable, metallically strong components which can be used as self-supporting constructional elements. The pores are fixed in terms of size and position. A special production technique allows the joining between porous and solid materials in a compacting process, resulting in so-called filter modules.
As a general rule, the chemical and thermal characteristics of sinter metals are the same as those of the solid materials used. However, the size of the specific surface area should be taken into account when assessing the chemical properties of any high-porosity component (sinter metal).

Across industries, GKN porous sintered metal filters are ideal for a variety of filtration and separation applications. From chemical processing to water treatment, these specially designed filters can outperform traditional filter media and reduce total manufacturing costs. Most industrial operations and scientific processes require the separation of solid particles from liquid or gas. These particles may be the desired end product or considered waste. In either case, filtration occurs when fluid or gas passes through a porous material or medium, while larger particles are held back. A filter's effectiveness depends upon how efficiently it separates particles of a particular size, and how the flow rate of the transmitted fluid varies over time (cleanability during operation by back flushing).
Porous metal filters generally are made from bronze, stainless steel, nickel-based alloys and titanium, using different powder metallurgical techniques.

The noise during suction and exhaust in pneumatic machines and control mechanisms is efficiently controlled by using SIKA-elements. Complicated sound dampers with lower efficiency are replaced by using simple SIKA-elements with hexagon section and thread.
Porous sintered elements gain their higher efficiency because of simultaneous control of reflection and absorption noise. Because of their high absorption efficiency, elements with high permeability are used for noise control systems with high speed turbulent airflow.

They eliminate discharge problems like bridging, funneling and ratholing, and are highly temperature tolerant (up to 950°C/1740°F).
