Lift Stations are designed to operate in conjunction with ALPHA WOLF Sewage Treatment Units. They become necessary where gravity flow is not feasible or practical. Lift stations can be used to pump raw sewage into a treatment plant, or they may be used to pump the effluent water from the plant or facility. The Lift Station can be utilized in the total design concept to provide an equalization effect on the Sewage Treatment Unit. In order to harmonize the complete system, a series of timers are utilized for activation during off-peak hours.
There are two basic types of Lift Stations used with ALPHA WOLF Wastewater Treatment Systems. The most basic type used is called a “Simplex” Lift Station. This design consists of a single pump, controls, and level controls. This type is most often used in lower volume flow applications. The “Duplex” Lift Station utilizes two pumps, a control panel, and level controls. This design is used where higher volume flow rates are common or a demand for greater reliability is required.
Simplex, as the name implies, consists of a single pump by design. The level control assembly utilizes sensors to control the electrical motor and pump. The fluid level rising and falling in the basin contacts the different sensors activating the motor to the appropriate function. When operating in the “On” position, the level of fluid in the basin will rise until contact with the start sensor is made. This activates the pump to discharge until the contents (fluid) fall below the stop sensor. The simplex design can include a High-Level alarm. This alarm (horn and/or light) will alert the plant operator that there is a high fluid level in the basin. This alarm will continue to sound until the fluid falls below the stop probe, or is manually silenced.
Dual (two) pumps are used in the duplex type Lift Station. The level control can be the same as utilized in the simplex design. The duplex control panel is equipped with an alternating relay that enables the pumps to automatically alternate with each pump cycle. When a high level condition is encountered, both pumps become operational, quickly lowering the fluid level within the basin.
