Construction observation is critical for identifying unanticipated site conditions and helping to verify conformance to the plans and specifications. As part of our post-design services, SAGE offers both full-time and part-time on-site construction observation to confirm the field conditions are consistent with our design assumptions and that the as-built improvements conform to the project documents. By identifying potential problems or conflicts in a timely fashion, we can develop cost-effective solutions that allow construction to continue with minimal delays.
SAGE provides engineering consultation and technical review services during all project phases, from initial planning through design and construction. During planning, we can evaluate project feasibility, perform due diligence reviews, and develop conceptual plans and cost estimates. We also prepare and review planning documents with respect to geotechnical, structural, civil, and geological issues. These documents can include Master Plans and CEQA compliance documents such as Negative Declarations or Environmental Impact Reports (EIRs).
During and after design, we can provide technical peer review of site development plans, geotechnical or geological investigation reports, and construction documents to check design completeness, construct-ability, and conformance with current standards of practice. We also offer engineering consultation during construction to assist owners and contractors with difficult or unforeseen soil, rock, and groundwater conditions.
SAGE provides expert testimony and technical support for soil-related disputes and insurance claims. Our professional staff is experienced in investigating and determining the causative factor(s) for distress to property or structures resulting from soil and/or rock movement (e.g., landslides, settlement, expansive soils, etc.). We also act as a neutral expert in litigation or dispute cases where there are conflicting experts and an independent third-party is required. We perform detailed investigations necessary to evaluate the distress or failure, determine the likely contributing cause(s), and develop appropriate and cost effective engineering solutions acceptable to all parties.
