Wastewater Evaporation
Mining operators need water to make bare rock give up its valuable minerals, however stricter regulations on acid mine drainage, removing metals from process water, and total dissolved solids (TDS) are pushing companies to look for more environmentally friendly solutions. Often tailing ponds are used to hold large quantities of process water. The evaporation process may be carried out naturally in solar evaporation ponds but this approach is slow and requires a great deal of land area. The cost of constructing additional storage ponds and the added cost of clean up and re-vegetation are often prohibitive. Mechanical Evaporation machines can rapidly increase the evaporation process, with up to 14 times more efficiency than space taken by the same area of pond. Our Evaporation Machines are relatively compact, reliable, efficient and portable.

There are many benefits to using Mechanical Evaporators:
- Lower process water management costs
- Enhance evaporation on existing ponds
- Minimize new pond surface area
- Quickly lower water volumes
- Lower environmental liability and the associated environmental protection bond requirements

Why Mechanical Evaporation for Produced Water Treatment?
Evaporators manage water in industrial environments and produce water evaporation rates beyond traditional approaches such as misting heads and irrigation systems. They are used to expand the capacity or extend the life of current water treatment facilities (such as tailing dams, evaporation and cooling ponds or irrigation fields). Other times, new facilities are designed to maximize the accelerated evaporation rates achieved using our systems. They remove significant amounts of excess and unwanted water economically, yet in an environmentally friendly way.
Evaporation is considered as an alternative process to a number of wastewater treatment applications such us Reverse Osmosis, Chemical Dosing or Desalination. The evaporation process may be carried out naturally in solar evaporation ponds (which is slow and requires a great deal of area) or by mechanical evaporation machines. Natural solar evaporation is often limited by land availability and the cost of constructing additional storage ponds, not to mention the added cost of clean up and revegetation. Evaporation machines can rapidly increase the evaporation process, with up to 14 times more efficiency than space taken by the same area of pond. Evaporation machines are relatively compact, reliable and efficient and can be transported to different sites as necessary. They can be a low cost addition to enhance evaporation on existing containment ponds or to minimize new pond surface area.
Types of Evaporators Land based
Types of Evaporators Land based
These evaporators are located on land either on portable carriages or fixed towers, along with central pump that is separate from the machine and a complete pipe net from the central pump to each evaporator. This system allows for easy maintenance and service as it’s on the shore but it requires more attention if wind direction varies greatly and if the site is sensitive to spray droplet drift dynamics. These land based units work by using specific nozzles that have a slightly smaller droplet size of around 100 microns, which provides better evaporation flow rates, excellent for using where drift dynamics and or fog are not an issue.
Lake based
Lake based
A lake-based evaporator floats in the water. The main advantages to this unit are that due it’s all surrounded by the pool area it is less vulnerable to changing wind conditions, requires less operator attention and it’s not as sensible to drift dynamics.Although the nominal evaporation rate per unit is about 25% less than the land based Super Polecat units due to less throw and sitting close to the water, the unit it can’t be considered by itself but as a whole system and be analyzed as such.
