3M Filtration & Separation
The Cuno Engineering Corporation was founded in 1912 by the German born Charles F. Cuno. The company found its early success in manufacturing quality automobile accessories including dash lights, timers for gas engines and cigar lighters1. His son Charles H. Cuno later succeeded his father in running the company. CUNO`s earliest filters, invented by Charlie Cuno, were stacked metal disks2 or metal mesh filters used to filter various oils. These early filters gave rise to the AutoKlean family of filters that are still used and in service today. Since then filtration and separation has been the primary focus during the 1960s before CUNO Incorporated became part of Commercial Intertech in 1986 and, in September 1996, a publicly listed company (NASDAQ: CUNO). In August 2005, CUNO Incorporated was acquired by 3M to combine its separation and filtration experience with the advanced materials innovation of 3M and enter a new era of solutions delivery to customers worldwide.
