Water Industry Operators Association of Australia (WIOA)
The Water Industry Operators Association of Australia (WIOA) is a national not-for-profit association with a primary role of facilitating the collection, development and exchange of quality information between people undertaking operational roles in the water, wastewater and recycled water industries. WIOA is an Incorporated Association and invites Membership from any persons responsible for carrying out the whole, or part operation and maintenance of any facet of the Water Industry. Members may be derived from the Private or Public Sector. WIOA’s Constitution has a number of key objectives including: Promoting standards of education and training to ensure efficiency and competency of members. Preservation of clean waterways and protection of Public Health and the environment. Accumulation and distribution of information on all aspects of the Water Industry.

History & Office Bearers
The original Victorian Wastewater Operators Association was founded in 1973. The role of the Association has expanded over the years and now provides services to staff employed in all operational facets of the water industry.
The Association now organises a Water Industry Operations Conference and Exhibition annually in Victoria, an event that has been staged annually for over 70 years and in New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia. The exhibitions have been extremely popular with all trade sites usually selling within a couple of days of being released.

- To build a National Association of Members who are actively engaged in the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater systems;
- To accumulate and disseminate information on the design, control, operation and maintenance of such systems to improve Members understanding and knowledge;
- To promote and develop education and training standards to ensure the highest possible levels of efficiency and competency for all operators;
- To provide opportunities for the recognition of individual achievements of both Members and other operators employed in the water industry;
- To encourage new people into the industry and ensure adequate skill levels and succession planning across the sector;
- To promote health and safety issues as a key element of the workplace;
- To develop consistent and reciprocal levels of training and qualifications of Members across all States and Territories; and
- To promote the protection of the environment in all member activities and functions.
