CARRARA SPA
CARRARA S.p.a., one of the most important European producers of seal systems for valves and flanges, is specialized in Environmental Services related to LDAR fugitive emissions and OGI optical gas imaging monitoring. FERP Environmental Division of CARRARA S.p.A. is among the European leaders in designing and implementing monitoring programs of VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) fugitive and diffuse emissions, of steam leakages, industrial plants technical and auxiliary gases leakages (Nitrogen, Hydrogen, Ammonia, etc.) and expertise in developing Energy Saving programs.

Application/Industries Served
Fugitive emissions of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) are monitored according to the EPA 453/95, EN 15446 and EPA 21 Method.
FERP implements programs for fugitive emissions reduction, using professional VOC analyzers to detect potentially leaking sources and quantify the total VOC amount.
Thanks to the SMART LDAR protocol, according to EPA 6560-50-P (Alternative work practice to detect leaks from equipment) for the detection of VOC fugitive emissions by remote inspective technique with infrared IR OGI Camera (Optical Gas Imaging);
CARRARA implements Energy Saving programs, in order to reduce steam losses and resources wasted.
Ferp also support the combined inspective protocols LDAR – SMART LDAR.
LDAR and SMART LDAR inspective activities for the detection of VOC fugitive emissions can be applied to the whole plant or only to parts of it, within a planned activity to reach a complete supervision of the inventory in the timeframe agreed with the inspective authorities. As for LDAR program, the inspective activities are related to DI&M (Directed Inspection & Maintenance) actions and to the calculation of an emissive estimate in t/year of VOC.
Within the inventory activity, FERP offers cataloguing models of the sources at increasing levels of “attributions”, starting from the simple enumeration, classification and localization to reach a detailed and functional characterization of the inventoried component. FERP is able to efficiently re-classify previous inventories from the Customer’s cataloguing and inventorying, to bring them back to a single database which meets the data management and storing requirements.
Specifications
In accordance with EPA 453/R95 protocol, the LDAR procedure for the fugitive emissions can also be adopted for the inspection of the components affected by some inorganic gases, with the aim to adopt a DI&M (Directed Inspection & Maintenance) on the leakers and to limit therefore the gas emissions, which are not VOC but can be equally dangerous or, more simply, costly.
The approach is the same as for the organic fluids. The components are localized, inventoried and inserted to a database. For each gas a precise assessment is made and finally the measurement instrument is selected to perform the inspection by.
In some cases it is not possible to get to a quantification in kg/hour of the fugitive emissions flow, but in any case it is always possible, by the Leak vs. No Leakapproach, to identify the components which require a repair, increasing therefore the plant safety.
