Ambient Flow Profiling Services
The Ambient Flow Profiling Service uses a unique technology developed by BESST. BESST service involves profiling the well during non-pumping static conditions. Thee Ambient Flow Profiling Service utilizes the DyeTracer system developed by the U.S. Geological survey which injects small quantities of diluted rhodamine dye solution into the well. The dye will move with the hydraulic gradient within the well. Two fiber optic sensor utilizing laser technology are used to detect the time it takes for the dye to move from the injection nozzle to the sensor, which determines the velocity and direction of the flow. The fiber optic sensor are situated in a vertical pattern, one is located below the injection nozzle and the other is positioned above the injection nozzle.
A ground surface based control unit contains the laser, beam splitter, photon receivers, signal amplifiers, diopters that convert light signals to voltage as well as the laser output and return photonic input channels for the fiber optic cables. With military grade fiber optic cables, laser-beam transmission and photonic emission return to the signal processing unit (SPU). The laser beam wavelength is transmitted at a band width between 540 to 560 nanometers which is the specific spectral band that causes the Rhodamine Red FWT 50 tracer to fluoresce.
The diagnostic data obtained utilizing the Ambient Flow Profiling Service provides insight to potential risks to the water quality of critical aquifers assets through the process of vertical and lateral mass transfer within an aquifer.

Combining BESST’s HydroBooster sampling system with the Ambient Flow Profile have produced diagnostic data that has revealed opportunities for a variety of different well modification. Installation of sleeves and packers at precise depth along the wells screen has reduced the amount of contaminants entering the well which in turn has reduced water treatment cost with saving that have been estimated to nearly 80 percent annually.
