Hydroitalia – Colsen proposes anaerobic digestion plants to produce renewable energy from the treatment of organic solid wastes and by-products. Our biogas plants endowed with new technology devices developed to improve the efficiency of the digestion process. Many environmental and operative advantages can be achieved applying anaerobic digestion processes at the industrial scale: reduction of environmental impacts due to a lower production of wastes, profits got from the renewable energy produced, reuse of the electrical and thermal energy produced from the plant and reuse of the digestate as fertilizer.

Fermentation represents a natural and anaerobic dissimilation process during which organic biomass is transformed. Certain bacterial strains are capable of converting organic material mainly into methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2).

This anaerobic digestion process takes place in two different ranges on the temperature scale, i.e. from 30- 40°C (mesophilic range) and from 50-55°C (thermophilic range).

Hydroitalia – Colsen constructs biogas plants to treat organic solid wastes in mesophilic or thermophilic digestion processes.

 

The thermophilic digestion produces biogas with higher kinetic speeds and produces a more stable digestate compared to the mesophilic process. This means shorter retention times into the digester and reduced volumes which lead to the possibility to construct compact plant solutions with minimum footprint.

 

For these reasons thermophilic digestion represents a powerful biological technology that can be effectively applied in many industrial sectors for biomass and organics conversion into biogas.

 

A unique mixing and heating device applied by Hydroitalia - Colsen let the digestion operates efficiently under very stable conditions, this device is named DigestMIX®. The produced biogas is desulphurized and can then be used for the production of heat and/or power in a CHP application.
