ACWA Services Ltd. has a proprietary hybrid anaerobic reactor for the treatment of high strength industrial wastewaters. The ACWA hybrid anaerobic reactor combines the benefits of an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) and anaerobic filter (AF) systems, and can typically remove 80% of the feed organic load.
The hybrid anaerobic process can be a single treatment process providing partial treatment of the wastewater suitable for discharge to sewer, or coupled with aerobic treatment processes for full treatment to a standard suitable for direct discharge to a watercourse. Biogas produced by the anaerobic treatment process can be used for on-site heating or electricity generation via a combined heat and power (CHP) system.
The ACWA hybrid anaerobic reactor is highly suitable for industries with high organic strength wastes. It has been employed in a variety of industrial sectors including food and beverage, paper mills, distilleries, sugar refiners and the agricultural and chemical industries.
