From Other Services
CalRecovery’s strong background in biological treatment, including anaerobic digestion and composting, is coupled with significant experience in providing technical assistance. The firm has conducted project work worldwide dealing with biological processing and is internationally recognized for its expertise in composting and co-composting of yard waste, food waste, biosolids, manure, agricultural residues, and other organic residues. Our experience includes visits to and evaluations of literally dozens of facilities around the world.
Members of CalRecovery often are invited to speak at national and international conferences to technical as well as lay audiences on the state-of-the-art and future direction of processing for organic materials, mixed solid waste, and recyclables. The firm has published more than 100 articles on the subject. Key books written by members of CalRecovery are entitled Compost Science and Technology (2007) and Modern Composting, in association with BioCycle (2005). The late Dr. Clarence Golueke, VP of R&D, developed the basic scientific principles for composting organic wastes in the United States in the early 1950s. Two of his publications, authored over 50 years ago, are still used today as reference materials.
Markets for Compost, U.S. EPA
CalRecovery conducted a nationwide market study of composts produced from yard debris and municipal solid waste, which assessed the existing status of marketing efforts in terms of types and grades of finished products; quantities produced, marketed, and stockpiled; methods of distribution; users and applications; prices; specifications; laboratory analyses; growth tests; and marketing, promotion, and public education efforts. Also evaluated were competitive products to the composts and their specifications, uses, and marketing efforts.
