Continuous Flow Diffusion Chamber Development Services
Handix Scientific worked closely with Colorado State University's Department of Atmospheric Science to build an improved version of their Continuous Flow Diffusion Chamber. The new design featured a recirculating refrigeration system for more stable temperature control and fully automated the preparation and operation of the instrument to enable near continuous measurements of ice nucleating particles in the atmosphere or laboratory. The instrument is now with the Beijing Weather Modification Office and is currently making the first CFDC-type INP measurements in China.
Services Overview
The main chamber is identical to that used in several of CSU's CFDC systems that have been deployed on many different platforms and environments. More information regarding the CSU CFDC can be found on Dr. Paul DeMott's webpage located here. For the commercially-available Handix Scientific continuous operation version, see here.
Handix Scientific has also been funded by NASA to develop an airborne version of the instrument.
