Regulation 1836/93 (EMAS), is a system by which industrial companies can voluntarily belong to the European eco-management and eco-auditing scheme. This regulation aims to stimulate respectful production towards nature, through the public recognition of those companies included in the Register of the European Commission. Its scope has been extended, compared to that of the previous regulation. Consequently, it is open to service organizations. It also entails greater compatibility with other European and international standards, fundamentally with the UNE-EN ISO 14001 standard, as for it reproduces part of that standard (requirements). Environmental verification guarantees that the company´s Environmental Management System complies with the requirements included on the 761/2001 EMAS Regulation. AENOR acts as the environmental verifier accredited by ENAC.
