Excavations and Data Management Services
ArcheoRes – Archaeological Research Group is a team of professional and high specialized archaeologists with extensive experience in the implementation and documentation of all types of stratigraphic excavation, including rescue archaeology, whether in urban and non-urban context. The methodology applied by ArcheoRes allow short delivery times while maintaining high scientific quality. The survey methods applied by ArcheoRes (2D and 3D photogrammetry, topographical survey, GIS and Geodatabase, geophysical survey) can also greatly improve the comprehensive analysis of any archaeological context.
Rescue Archaeology
Rescue archaeology, also called preventive archaeology, is a state-sanctioned process involving surveys and excavation works in areas that are threatened by construction and other land development where remains are uncovered or likely to be uncovered. Most countries today require rescue archaeology by law, whether in the form of surveys to be performed pre-development or in form of monitoring the excavations as heavy machinery dig the ground. The Italian government issued the so-called Archaeological Impact Evaluation Assessment (VIARCH) to satisfy this legislation. The VIARCH is thus a forward-looking activity because it pertains to what is to be done to safeguard archaeology remains.
Drafting VIARCH in Italy roughly consists in:
- Geological, historical and archaeological analysis. This phase aims to outline the geological setting of a territory, and to identify any type of archaeological and historical remains by the means of a combination of methods: archaeological survey and field walking, geophysical surveys, historical archives research, etc.
- Sensibility. This phase defines the uniqueness value of a context, using parameters such as the antiquity, rarity and level of conservation as well as the artistic value.
- Risk evaluation. Assessing the “level of risk” means to outline the probability that construction and land develpment may interfere on ancient deposits, generating a negative impact on objects, artifacts and monuments.
ArcheoRes - Archaeological Research Group provides VIARCH reports for any type of construction and land development project. We fulfill all VIARCH legal requirements as we are able to supply all types of analysis requests.
