First Nations and Stakeholder Consultation Service

As land and resource development projects can have a direct impact on local residents, consultation and negotiation with nearby communities, including First Nations, can play a critical role in a project’s ability to advance. Clients come to Hemmera for our innovative approaches to community consultation. We focus on establishing communication frameworks and on building relationships that can identify, and resolve, key issues early.

We have devised a broad range of programs and services to facilitate negotiation between our clients and local communities. We understand that each project, each region, and each community is unique. For each project, we develop and deliver a customized consultation program, and we strive to be a valued partner, trusted by both our clients and the local population.

We have played key roles in developing and implementing First Nations consultation programs for Teck/Highland Valley Copper, several BC Hydro electrification projects, and for the BC Ministry of Transportation on the Sea-to-Sky Project and Gateway Program.

We are known for our ability to develop productive, lasting frameworks for conducting successful negotiations on a project’s impacts and benefits and the necessary accommodations. Among the services we provide are: facilitating First Nations issues and interests to the project’s proponents and the regulatory agencies, liaising with government agencies to establish appropriate mitigation, and developing strategies that will facilitate the review and approvals process.

At Hemmera, we can provide nearly any environmental consulting service, from basic desktop environmental assessment reviews to full service environmental management of billion-dollar infrastructure developments. We can scale our services to fit nearly any size of project, including the management of large teams with multiple sub-consultants. Working closely with our clients, we assemble teams with the combination of technical excellence and experience that most effectively addresses their specific needs. We can manage any and all negotiations with regulators, and we have extensive experience in presenting projects to stakeholders, and building the support that is essential for success.

We are uniquely skilled in finding optimal solutions that both safeguard the environment and advance economic opportunity.
