GIS Integration
IVU Umwelt will integrate your models and our models in geographical information systems (GIS). This approach is suited to the spatial reference in data used for environmental planning and opens up new possibilities for you in analysis and display. As an ESRI business partner and MapInfo partner, IVU Umwelt offer professional services and efficient integration of GIS ArcView and MapInfo.
GIS-Integration of IMMIS - Concept
IMMISem, IMMISluft und IMMISnet :
The combination of the models provides the maintenance of background, additional and total concentrations of one dataset in one general database.
All street data are stored in one central dBase-File according to specifications of IMMISluft. The entire processing is carried out from within ArcView GIS and MapInfo, respectively, thus allowing direct visualization and additional processing of the results.
Advantages
- free of redundancy data base management
- access to geographic information
- integrating user interface
- use of GIS functionalities for digitizing data, visual and statistical consistency tests and data representation
- consistent and uniform representation of result for several scenarios.
- Fitting the GIS to the user's needs using integrated programming languages - unlimited extension of the program's functionalities
- Separation of data management and model by using the IMMIS-modules via a DLL

Database
Emissions induced by street traffic
The screening program IMMISluft calculates emissions induced by street traffic based on e. g. the 'Handbook of emission factors' of the Umweltbundesamt (German environmental agency) into one central street database.
Additional concentration
Simultaneously, IMMISluft calculates the additional concentration in the street canyons and saves them to the central database.
Background concentration
Based on the central database, the climatological multi source dispersion model IMMISnet calculates the background concentrations in the streets and saves them to the central database. In doing so, additional area and point sources as well as the large scale background concentration in the area of investigation can be taken into account. If needed, IMMISnet also provides a spatial distribution of the background concentration based on the same data set.
Total concentrationg
In the central database, total concentrations in the streets are automatically calculated as sum of background concentrations and additional concentrations.
ArcView
IMMISarc integrates for modeling air pollution in street canyons the screening model IMMISluft(air) and for modeling noise pollution the model IMMISlärm(noise) as an ArcView-Extension. IMMISarc will be installed as an extension to ArcView. The computing core is loaded from IMMISluft/lärm as a dynamic run time library (DLL). An appropriate IMMISluft/lärm menu will be set up in ArcView when opening a 'view'. The menu provides direct access to the complete functionality of IMMISluft/lärm within ArcView.
The attribute data of an individual street segment, necessary for the calculation of the emissions and concentrations induced by traffic, will be stored as attributes of a 'shapefile' in a dBase-file. The format of the dBase file exactly corresponds to the format, that is required by IMMISluft/lärm. Thus, a data base created and processed using IMMISarc may directly processed within IMMISluft.
IMMISarc creates IMMIS projects corresponding to the project files of IMMISluft/lärm. Thus, the user may process the projects either within IMMISluft/lärm or within ArcView. The user won't have to sustain any redundant data, since all data are stored in a compatible data format.
The street network is the geographical basis. It may be digitized using raster images. In addition yet available themes with street features may be used. The user may enter necessary parameters and file paths for IMMISluft/lärm calculations by user friendly input dialogs.
If you intend to use IMMISarc you are required to purchase:
- a license of a module of IMMIS (IMMISluft Version 2.6 or higher)
- Windows 95/98/2000 or Windows NT Version 4.0 or higher
- a license of ArcView Version 3.0a or higher
MapInfo
When installing IMMISmap the computing core of the requested module of the program system IMMIS (IMMISluft/net/lärm) will be loaded as an MapBasic-Program in MapInfo. IMMISmap always provides an appropriate IMMIS-Menü. Unsing the menu direct access to the complete functionality of IMMIS is available.
The attribute data of an individual street segment, necessary for the calculation of the emissions and concentrations induced by traffic, will be stored in a dBase-file. The format of the dBase file exactly corresponds to the format, that is required by IMMISluft/lärm. Thus, a data base created and processed using IMMISmap may directly processed within IMMISluft/lärm.
The handling of necessary input data for seperate street segments is possible using IMMIS standard dialogs or the merging and spatial analysis possibilities in MapInfo. When using IMMIS standard dialogs a segment needs to be selected. A menu item will be available calling the well-known IMMIS-dialog 'Input for street segments'. All data can be entered as in the stand-alone version of IMMIS except the geographical information, that will be set by the GIS.
If you intend to use IMMISmap you are required to purchase:
- a license of a module of IMMIS (IMMISluft Version 2.6 or higher)
- Windows 95/98/2000 or Windows NT Version 4.0 or higher
- a license of MapInfo Version 4 or higher
