Polarization Sensitive Measurements Software
Micro Pulse Lidar (MPL) can be used to make polarization sensitive measurements in order to measure co-polarized and cross-polarized backscatter signals. The addition of the polarization package is the most requested option. The ability to measure depolarization from non-spherical aerosols or ice crystals is very useful in characterizing aerosol types or determining cloud phase. The MPL uses a time-interleaved technique to separate signals from the two polarization states while using a single optical train. This eliminates the need for cross calibrating channels, correcting non-linearity in separate detectors or matching fields of view between channels.
