Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) System Software
SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) is the term used to described a central computer system that brings all of the operational data from an industrial process into a graphical interface and allows operators to view and control the complete system. Typically, a SCADA system consists of a server (or system of multiple servers) which communicate with the plant controllers and instrument systems to bring control and instrumentation signals (i.e. pump/motor run status, flow rates, pipline pressures, tank levels, remote control command signals) onto a computer screen so that operators can make sense of what is happening throughout the facility. A SCADA System will handle trending of data values to allow precise monitoring and control, it wall handle alarming to signal facility staff of problems, and will allow control set point changes to be made from a main office.
