Abatement Supervisor Courses
This 32-hour initial course meets EPA's training requirements for those individuals that will plan and/or oversee the abatement work. A certified Supervisor can perform all of the duties that a Worker can. In addition, a Supervisor is responsible for occupant safety during the abatement process and for writing the abatement plan. While there is no prerequisite to attend this course, EPA requires individuals to have a certain amount of experience to qualify for this certification. Proof of experience must be sent with the student's application to EPA. During the 6-month interim certification period the Supervisor can perform abatement activities while EPA processes their certification application.
Applicants, after receiving a letter from EPA with the student's picture on it, must then take and pass the EPA National Certification Examination. There are NO time extensions. If the individual fails to obtain certification within this 6 month time period the interim certificate will expire and the supervisor will no longer be able to perform abatement work and will have to take the ENTIRE course over again unless the application is in process. To maintain certification, students must complete a refresher course prior to the expiration date on their certificate.
