Competent Person Training
SafeCon uses a network of professionals and tailors the instructors to meet the clients’ needs and goals for Competent Person training. All General Industry and Construction safety topics are available, including both Federal and State Plan OSHA regulatory requirements.
Q: What is a “Competent Person?”
A: One who is capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions which are unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous to employees, and who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate these hazards.
Fall Protection - This course introduces students to the California and Federal (Cal/OSHA and OSHA) construction safety standards and regulations covering Fall Protection. Topics include an integrated study of hazard recognition and abatement principles related to falls on construction work sites. Available equipment, equipment use, maintenance, storage and inspection requirements to maintain compliance is also covered. The study of compliance issues and challenges facing safety professionals including mishap and case study analysis, California and Federal construction safety standards, work site inspection, interfacing with compliance officials, vertical and horizontal standards, and common construction industry compliance issues are also discussed. Additional topics include: Conventional Systems, Body Harness Devices, Anchor Points, and Vertical/Horizontal Traveling Systems.
Scaffolding - This course introduces students to the California and Federal (Cal/OSHA and OSHA) construction safety standards and regulations covering Scaffolding. Topics include an integrated study of hazard recognition and construction principles related to scaffolding structures on construction work sites. Other topics include basic scaffold erection, maintenance and inspection requirements to maintain compliance; the study of compliance issues and challenges facing safety professionals including mishap and case study analysis; California and Federal construction safety standards; work site inspection; interfacing with compliance officials; material and erection standards; and common construction industry compliance issues. Additional topics include: Platforms, Bracing, Guardrails, Falling Objects, Tie-Ins & Scaffold Bracing, and Mobile Scaffolds.
Trenching and Excavation - This course introduces students to the California and Federal (Cal/OSHA and OSHA) construction safety standards and regulations covering Trenching and Excavations. Topics include an integrated study of hazard recognition and construction principles related to trenching on construction work sites, basic trench structure, soil mechanics, shoring equipment, maintenance and inspection, and requirements to maintain compliance. Other topics include the study of compliance issues and challenges facing safety professionals including mishap and case study analysis, Cal and Federal construction safety standards, work site inspection, interfacing with compliance officials, shoring equipment, shield standards, and common construction industry compliance issues. Additional topics include: Soil testing, protective means, documentation, gas monitoring and ingress/egress.
Confined Space - This course introduces students to the California and Federal (Cal/OSHA and OSHA) construction safety standards and regulations covering Confined Space and “Permit Required Confined Space” Entries. Topics include an integrated study of hazard recognition and construction principles related to confined space entry; basic permit requirements; proper utilization of gas monitoring equipment; ventilation of spaces; communications techniques and equipment; the study of compliance issues and challenges facing safety professionals including mishap and case study analysis; California and Federal construction safety standards; work site inspection; interfacing with compliance officials; entry equipment; and common confined space compliance issues. Additional topics include: Duties of Supervisors, Entrants, Attendants; Alternate Entry procedures; Reclassifying a permit-required confined space; and OSHA Confined Space Entry Program requirements.
