Endorsed courses don’t lead to BOHS qualifications; rather, they offer delegates a broad-brush introduction to some key issues which might include:
- basic knowledge of the subject field
- an understanding of likely risks to health and how these can be minimised or avoided
- factors to consider when engaging outside contractors or consultants
- an overview of any relevant guidance and essential documentation and procedures
- clarification of everybody’s roles and legal responsibilities.
Successful completion of the course should lead to a better understanding of statutory requirements, how near or far they are to being met, and provide information about what, if anything, to do next.
Aimed not at technical practitioners, these courses are more for generalists, such as small business owners, managers/directors with an overall responsibility for health and safety, or union health and safety representatives from larger organisations, who need to know how to comply with the law and understand best practice.
What is the Endorsed Course Scheme?
Put simply, BOHS will formally endorse existing courses in subjects which cover issues relating to occupational hygiene from Course Providers whose procedures, systems and syllabuses have been assessed. Course Providers receive BOHS’s endorsement for that course and can badge the course material and certification with the BOHS Endorsed Course logo. Delegates on the courses receive attendance or achievement certificates from BOHS, on completion.
The aim of our Endorsed Course Scheme is ultimately to make sure that awareness training in all aspects of occupational hygiene is of the highest possible standard and that BOHS, as the leading professional body in this field, is central to its development.
