Environmental Risk Analysis Course
This webinar will provide examples to equip the CCA to evaluate N and P management systems using water quality vulnerability assessment tools for site-specific nutrient planning; evaluate the effect of changing management strategies on risk assessment outcomes and potential N and P loss; compare soil, topography, geography and watershed characteristics on potential environmental N and P impacts; discuss the role of N and P, and past and present management practices on eutrophication; and discuss the role of N in drinking water standards.
Dr. Bruulsema will outline and describe assessment tools for water quality risks in the eastern part of the six-state region. He will review phosphorus issues in the western Lake Erie watershed, and the 4R Nutrient Stewardship certification program developed in response. Integration of metrics representing environmental, economic and social impacts into industry sustainability initiatives will also be covered.
Dr. Jordahl will address several environmental risk analysis issues, including tools states use to assess potential downstream impacts of nutrients, drinking water standards, the Gulf Hypoxia issue, the limits of the 4Rs concept on downstream nutrient impacts, and TMDLs as a regulatory approach that can be used in watersheds.
