This course has been designed to meet OSHA requirements for 40 hour Hazardous Materials Technician Level Training. This course combines both classroom and hands-on exercises in an effective approach to meet the training needs of the student. The classroom presentations consist of lecture, audio-visual presentations and workshops. The use of case studies is taken advantage of to emphasize important points in the program. Students are assigned tasks in the workshops for both group and individual training. Participation in the classroom presentations by each student is encouraged.
Hands-on training in protective clothing, monitoring equipment and procedures, decontamination procedures, medical surveillance and the establishment of an incident command system is also provided in this program. Each student is urged to participate in all phases of these practical exercises that are concluded with a simulation designed to be facility specific.
Successful completion of a written examination is required of all participants in the training course for a certificate of completion. The minimum grade required for successful completion is 70%. This information is provided to the student in the opening administrative section of the training program.

HAZARDOUS MATERIALS TECHNICIAN 80hr COURSE - NFPA 472 AND 29 CFR 1910.120 OSHA compliant
This training course has been designed to meet the requirements of hazardous materials response teams. The course may be delivered in several formats (schedules available upon request). The course contains minimum of 40 hours classroom presentation and 40 hours hands-on training. This format can be changed to include additional hours of training to address specific needs of the team being trained.
Students are given a pre-test in the opening session to determine the level of each participant. This information is then used in determining the areas to be emphasized during the training program. This information can then also be used by the team to determine the present capabilities of each student before assigning that student to response duty.
Reference material for each session is provided to each student. This material is used to supplement the classroom presentation and is also used in the review of the course. Assignments are also given periodically that the student must use the reference material to complete.
The classroom presentation consists of lecture, audio-visual presentations and classroom workshops. The use of case studies is taken advantage of to emphasize important points in the program. Students are assigned tasks in the workshops for group and individual completion. Participation in the classroom presentation by each student is encouraged and sought. Each student is given the opportunity to hold all positions from first responder to on-scene commander when responding to a hazardous materials incident.
Quizzes are used to determine the progress of each student and the areas that must be reinforced in the second half of the course. At this time if any student is determined to need individual training it is offered to that student.
Hands-on training in protective clothing and basic hazardous materials response procedures is required of each student. The student is required to wear encapsulated suits, use monitoring equipment, establish a command post, use specialized hazardous materials equipment and establish a proper decontamination facility and procedures for a given hazardous material. Each student is given individual instruction and then asked to perform assigned tasks as a part of the hazardous materials response team.
A final examination is given and is used in conjunction with hands-on proficiency and classroom participation to determine if the student has shown sufficient knowledge of the course material given a certificate of completion. The final examination grade must be 75% or above for completion of the course. This requirement and attendance regulations are made known to class participants in the opening session.
DO I NEED TO KNOW THAT? - A training program designed for the hazmat responder who while not having numerous calls, still must keep his or her skills at a high level of readiness in order to accomplish a safe, effective response. This training program can be used as a refresher training for awareness and operational level responders as well as part of OSHA's on-going training for technicians. Tabletop activities reinforce the student objectives that emphasize the practical application for the information presented in the course.

HOSPITAL RESPONSE TO HAZARDOUS MATERIALS INCIDENTS - Hospital Response to Managing Hazardous Materials Incidents
This training program is an eight- (8) hour session designed to meet OSHA and JCAHO requirements for hospital personnel handling chemically contaminated patients. The course will focus on handling contaminated patients requiring medical treatment at the facility and the protection of hospital personnel. These patients may arrive as walk-in patients, transported by ambulance from an accidents or hazardous materials incident or as a result of an incident within the hospital.
Objectives addressed include:
Hospital response plan - involving chemical contamination
Safe work practices
Personnel protective clothing
Alternative work areas
Basic principles of toxic effects
This program will be made site specific by incorporating local response plans and protocols.
PCB CLEAN-UP - PCB Cleanup (16 Hours)
The following topics are presented in the H.K. CARR & Associates, Inc. training program designed to meet the requirements of 29 CFR 1910.120 for PCB clean-up activities. All students in this course shall have first completed a 40-hour Hazardous Waste Clean-up course that is compliant with 29 CFR 1910.120(e).
Relevant chemical exposures to hazardous substances beyond that previously covered in the prerequisite course (PCB hazards)
Site hazards including fire and explosion, confined spaces, oxygen deficiency, electrical, powered equipment, and walking-working surfaces beyond that previously covered
Names of personnel and alternates responsible for site safety and health at the site, where appropriate
Use of appropriate monitoring equipment and the implementation of the employee and site monitoring program
Implementation and use of the informational program
Drum and container handling procedures and the elements of a PCB spill containment program
Selection and use of appropriate material handling equipment
Methods for assessment of risk and handling of PCB waste
Container sampling procedures and safeguards
Safe preparation procedures for shipping and transport of containers

Hands-on training is integrated throughout this training program based on the responsibilities of the employee. A student must achieve a 75% score on the final exam and participate in each hands-on training segment to receive a certificate of successful completion.
EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES RESPONSE TO HAZARDOUS MATERIALS INCIDENTS - Emergency Medical Services Hazardous Materials NFPA 473
EMS/HM is a three-day (24 hr.) training program developed to meet the requirements of NFPA 473 'Standard for Professional Competency for EMS Personnel Responding to Hazardous Materials Incidents'. This on site training program for up to twenty four (24) students will enable your personnel to:
Function as part of the Incident Command System,
Become familiar with regulations and guidelines,
Interpret information from reference materials, EMS Toxicology, and monitoring equipment utilized,
Develop and implement a safe response and appropriate plan of action,
Coordinate patient triage, patient care and patient transport,
Evaluate the progress and effectiveness of their plan of action,
During the program the student will be involved in five hands-on evolution's utilizing - reference materials, and local emergency response plans, operating procedures, local EMS protocols (as available), establishing zones/work areas and handling of contaminated patients, protection of personnel, equipment and transporting apparatus.
This program has been adopted by the International Society of Fire Service Instructors (ISFSI) as part of their total hazardous emergency response training.
Items needed to present this program. A classroom with audio-visual equipment, a training area for practical training (parking lot), water supply (if possible) and an ambulance response unit.
The student will be presented with a student manual, NAERG, a reference/response book and handouts pertaining to constantly updated material.
GLOBAL HARMONIZATION SYSTEM (GHS)
This training program will familiarize you with the new regulatory requirements under OSHA and other agencies mandating implementation of GHS by December 31st, 2013. Placards and labels cover a multiple applications and the change from MSDS to SDS.
