XPSWMM Training
From Training Courses
A comprehensive series to enable delegates to progress from a basic to advanced level of competence in integrated catchment modelling with xpswmm (powered by TUFLOW). In outline the series will cover stormwater, Low Impact Development (LID), river, culvert and existing urban drainage modelling, advanced stormwater hydrology, dual drainage, storage, integrated 1D/2D modelling (powered by TUFLOW) covering flood management scenarios and including levee breach.
xpswmm Day 1
The first day of training will provide an introduction to xpswmm and its user friendly graphical user interface, focusing on stormwater modelling, starting with basic hydrology and hydraulics.
xpswmm Interface
- xpswmm's Graphical User Interface (GUI)
- xpswmm layer control
- Pulldown menus
- Icons
Hydrology Analysis & GIS
- Loading GIS & background images
- Rainfall on grid: for strategic assessments
- Hydrological processes (Rainfall – Evaporation – Infiltration)
- Practical exercise
Hydraulic Analysis
- Hydraulics mode
- Create a Model with xpswmm for 1D Hydraulics
- Check an xpswmm model
- Run an xpswmm model
- Review an xpswmm model
- Resizing pipes
- Practical exercise
xpswmm Day 2
The second day of training will provide more in-depth instruction and exercises for advanced stormwater hydrology, including modelling functions such as dual drainage and storage.
Intermediate Hydraulic Modelling
- Adding elements to an existing network
- Modelling natural and trapezoidal channels
- Setting up an orifice, weir and a storage node
- Practical exercise
- Street flooding and dual drainage
- Scenario manager
- Practical exercise
- Simulating using multiple storms
xpswmm Day 3 Agenda
The third day will delve into open channel and integrated 1D/2D modelling, including TUFLOW. It will train delegates in the more advanced modelling techniques and help with a range of aspects that will assist production of flood risk management plans (FRMPs).
1D/2D Integrated Hydraulic Modelling
- 1D River modelling
- Import a 1D drainage network
- Linking a 1D drainage network with a river
- Solving an integrated 1D/2D model
- 2D mode settings
- Hazard rating
- Water depth
- Results + output files (EA/DEFRA requirements)
- Mitigating flooding
- Evacuation routes
- Bridge crossing
- Practical exercise
- Flood walls
- Rural flooding
- Rainfall on a grid (Simulating the event in Thatcham)
- Practical exercise
