All purchased parts are approved products and are available world-wide.Horizontal Directional drilling is an economical and environment friendly method for the installation of pipelines underneath rivers, roads, railway tracks, buildings and other obstacles. With this method you can install: sewer, freshwater, gas, oil and telecommunication pipelines without trenching. In the first step a pilot bore is made from the entry to the exit point.During the pilot bore a bentonite suspension is pumped through the nozzles of the drill head where it then hydraulically removes the cuttings from the bore hole. The steerable drill string, consisting of drill rods screwed together, is guided along the rated drill path via a drill head with a locating system behind it.The bentonite suspends the cuttings and transfers it back along the annular space between the drill rods and the bore hole to the surface at the entry point. There it is pumped to a recycler. From the recycler the regained bentonite fluid is brought back into the drill cycle.The locating system shows when the drill head has left its predefined drill path. In this case the drill head will be redirected back on course.In a second step the pilot bore hole is enlarged in diameter by pulling back a constantly rotating backreaming tool. New drill rods are continuously added during the process to extend the drill string.All backreaming tools are equipped with nozzles and cutters inserts in order to hydraulically and mechanically remove the immediately surrounding soil.Due to the geology a mixture consisting of water, bentonite and other additives such as polymers is used to remove the drill cuttings and to stabilise the bore hole while also reducing the friction force.In a third and last step the product pipe is pulled in.During the pull-in process, a swivel between the backreamer and the ensuing product pipe is installed in order to prevent a rotation of the product pipe.The product pipe has to enter the bore hole without exceeding its minimum bending radius. Therefore the front part of the pipe will be adjusted to the exit angle of the bore hole by lifting it before it goes into to the bore hole.The HDD-Technology can be used in soft and very hard geological formations.
It does not matter if the bore is executed in Siberia at -40 degrees Celsius or at +40 degrees Celsius in the Sahara dessert.
