Solutions for recovering metals

by Calgon Carbon Corporation     based in Pittsburgh, PENNSYLVANIA (USA)

The mining industry relies on Calgon Carbon’s Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) to recover gold and other precious metals. Calgon Carbon’s ISEP® Technology is used to recover precious, rare earth and base metals, uranium, copper, nickel and zinc from ore, waste and reclaim streams. Our high-quality activated carbons have been developed and successfully proven to maximize efficiency by reducing the loss of precious metals and the consumption of carbon in three precious metal extraction techniques: Carbon-in-Leach (CIL), Carbon-in-Pulp (CIP) and Carbon-in-Column (CIC). When Ion Exchange is employed for metal recovery in leach and waste streams, Calgon Carbon’s ISEP ® system provides a continuous, consistent and high purity concentrated product while minimizing the use of chemicals, resin and wastes. Calgon Carbon’s continuous ion exchange systems are the most flexible, robust, and accepted in the industry.

Waste recovery for energy & utilities

by Tetronics (International) Limited     based in Swindon, UNITED KINGDOM

In order to stay competitive and to be seen as being environmentally responsible, energy and utility companies are always looking for alternative routes to generate power. One method of doing this is by leveraging waste to energy incineration plants linked to the processing municipal solid waste. During this incineration process, APC residues, which are a mixture of fly ash, organic pollutants (including dioxins and furans), are generated and are classified as hazardous waste and have a detrimental environmental impact. This fly ash is subject to Air Pollution Control as it is contaminated with extremely high concentrations of heavy metals and toxic compounds like dioxins, linked to cancer and other health problems. Tetronics offers valuable waste recovery plants that can eliminate the hazardous element within the fly ash while generating an inert building aggregate with the remaining material.

Waste recovery for metal refining

by Tetronics (International) Limited     based in Swindon, UNITED KINGDOM

Metal refining is increasingly seen as an essential part of natural resource conservation As sources of primary metals become scarcer or harder to excavate, the only viable solution is to extract and recycle secondary source of material already in circulation in a number of mass produced consumer products across the globe. The challenge is finding a technology that can efficiently recover these valuable metals from their less valuable materials. Tetronics can assist with a range of metal refining challenges, including:

Waste recovery for metal manufacturing

by Tetronics (International) Limited     based in Swindon, UNITED KINGDOM

There are several challenges faced by the metal manufacturing industry. Firstly, there is a drive to recover as much metal credit as possible before disposal of by-products as wastes. Secondly, there is a requirement to minimise waste generation or alternatively minimise the costs of managing the disposal of any hazardous waste material generated during the manufacturing process. Finally, keeping the company competitive by generating value or by reducing costs in the manufacturing process. Any solutions that can overcome these challenges must be considered. Tetronics can assist with a range of metal manufacturing waste challenges, including:

Recycling equipments for ferrous scrap metal shredding & recycling

by Granutech-Saturn Systems     based in Grand Prairie, TEXAS (USA)

Ferrous scrap metal includes metals that can be reclaimed for use through traditional ferrous scrap recovery systems. These metals include a wide variety of light ferrous scrap such as sheet steel, 55 gallon drums, white goods, and other forms of loose tin. Heavier ferrous scrap can be processed through the Saturn hammermill line of shredders which also produce a more consistent, higher density shred. Shredders prepare the metals for further separation or directly to end ferrous scrap consumers. Additional Granutech machinery such as the MAC Magnum Logger, or MAC Big MAC auto crusher can compact and densify larger ferrous items reducing transportation costs.

Removal of Non-Ferrous Metals in the Recycling Industry

by Eriez Magnetics Europe Ltd     based in Bedwas, UNITED KINGDOM

Non magnetic metals such aluminum + copper can be separated using eriez eddy current separators or meta sorters. Eriez equipment, either as individual units or complete systems, is designed for efficient + economical processing of municipal solid waste, co-mingled recyclables, shredded automobiles, Electronic Scrap, Glass Cullet, Plastic (PET), foundry sand and many other resource recovery options.

Briquetting of Copper

Recycling equipments for shredding scrap metals

by Granutech-Saturn Systems     based in Grand Prairie, TEXAS (USA)

Scrap metal includes metals that can be reclaimed for use in manufacturing, processed for re-melting or prepared for disposal in landfills. These metals include industrial scrap metal and remainders, electronic scrap, aluminum and precious metals. Shredders prepare the metals for bailing and bundling, saving storage space, transportation and disposal costs. Quad shaft shredders reduce and separate electronic scrap and prototypes in one process, allowing for the recovery of precious metals. Dual or quad shaft shredders break bales or briquettes of pre-processed metal scrap for final size reduction and separation for reclamation or re-melting, allowing for recovery and reuse of the metals. Integrated systems include grinders and hammer mills for producing small size or powdered materials for reuse.

Recycling equipments for non-ferrous scrap metal shredding & recycling

by Granutech-Saturn Systems     based in Grand Prairie, TEXAS (USA)

Non-Ferrous Metal Recycling is a large industry focusing on the recovery of metals such as aluminum, brass, copper, and even precious metals from electronic scrap. The applications and needs of non ferrous metal recyclers vary greatly. These can include a large corporate recycler buying UBC bales for shredding to be converted back into beverage cans or a small recycler who is recovering precious metals from circuit boards or catalytic converters.

Metal Sorting - Non Ferrous Metals Sorting

by TOMRA Sorting (TITECH)     based in Mülheim-Kärlich, GERMANY

Modern sensor-based sorting systems are superior to traditional manual or sink-float processes for reasons including that they achieve material purities of up to 99.9% in refining the sorted fractions. TOMRA Sorting’s efficient sorting and recycling technology provides benefits for shredder machinery and heavy media operators, plus aluminum resmelters. Shredder operators can create individual fractions out of mixed product which yield much higher market values. Heavy media operators can produce and sell pure final products themselves, meaning their investment in technology is recouped quickly. After wet processing, the aluminum product still contains impurities and its concentration can be improved further using TITECH technology and sold for a considerably higher profit. For smelters, the TITECH x-tract [XRT] removes impurities in the secondary resource to such a high degree of precision that less primary resource is needed to obtain useful aluminum.
